Four Ways to Stay Sane in a Pandemic
Did you know the last time there was a severe pandemic outbreak was in 1918? So, chances are most of us have never lived through anything like this. Whether you’re on day 12 or day 64 of quarantine life, or maybe you’ve lost count (we definitely have), it’s time to make the best of your new routine. While this is a very uncertain time in our lives, we always try to find the hidden blessings in any situation. We’ve managed to find that social distancing has quite a few benefits…we’ve been doing ALL the face masks (think seaweed and bentonite clay not N95), working on at-home projects (hello PINTEREST), catching up on our beauty sleep and adapting to working from home. Here’s what’s fueling our positivity right now and amping up our beauty game…
1. GET YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE IN CHECK
With this newfound downtime, it’s the perfect opportunity to work on your glow game. Most are working from home right now which gives us the all the time to perfect our regimen and skincare rituals. Start by getting your skincare hygiene in check, which means washing your pillowcases, bedsheets, and makeup brushes regularly. Now that you’re most definitely spending more time at home and in bed, make sure you’re washing your sheets every week.
2. KEEP A ROUTINE
Routines go beyond just skincare. We think routines are totally keeping us sane. For many, work and school are still in full swing…from our kitchen tables. Although this may feel like a staycation- it is not. Schedule your alarm and have set wake-up times. Getting dressed and ready in the mornings does wonders, and it’s been proven that it will help you get more done and keep your mental state in check. (Bonus points for throwing on lipgloss!) Make sure the kiddos write down their own routines and follow their daily schedule. Take a lunch break together. Get outside and go for a walk. Remember, keep things consistent to maximize a sense of normalcy in life.
3. TAKE IT EASY
We are all navigating this new life as we go. Remember to do the best you can and not be so hard on yourself when it comes to parenting or working from home. Taking some “me time” can be crucial. Take 10 minutes and do a quick hair treatment like Olaplex No. 3. No morning traffic means no reason not to put on that extra moisturizer and sunscreen DAILY. If you’re someone who regularly blow-dries, straightens or curls their hair, then girl, this is your TIME TO SHINE. Let your hair heal itself with natural styling methods. It looks like we aren’t leaving our homes for a while, so go heat-free and your hair will love you for it.
4. SLEEP
Now that there’s no commute, your beauty sleep should be in its prime. Sleep is THE number one immunity booster and it’s a crucial part of a good beauty regimen. So, take this time to get your eight hours in. Yes EIGHT hours is the minimum your body needs to recover properly.
Not to sound overly positive, but isn’t this a unique opportunity we have? For the first time in most of our lifetimes, the whole world is self-isolating, and everyone is hitting the pause button and slowing down a bit. So now is the perfect time to participate in extra family time and self-care. Back in real life (pre-rona) we found ourselves too busy, too tired, too something to be able to get to them regularly. Well friends, now you have nothing but time, so make the best of it and stay safe and healthy!
